The
cartridge known as "Buck and Ball" has been in use
by the American military for a long time prior to
the war of the rebellion. It consisted of a single
conical ball with 3 .31 caliber buckshot. While it
was produced by the northern arsenals, "Buck and
Ball" was not mentioned in the ordnance manuals. Our
"Buck and Ball" ammo box is painted blue, per the
'62 Ordnance Manual for .69 cal. Round Ball.
We chose blue because the buck and Ball cartridges
are closer in size to the round ball. The color for
buckshot boxes is red. |
